Typical Dick Schott New Member Outing:
The outings stated goal is to build on what new members learned at the Member School and put the knowledge and techniques to use in the real fishing work.New members are assigned to groups that are led by experienced club guides who take the groups on tours of the noted fishing access sites along the Au Sable’s main stream and north branch. The guides share information regarding wadding trips as well as float trips. They also take their groups to local fly shops and introduce them to the shops owners and guides.
Short version of the itinerary:
Wednesday Evening; Introductions and picnic dinner
Thursday Morning: Meet in dining room for breakfast
River side fly fishing demonstration
Form groups and tour the fishing sites on the Main Branch of the Au Sable with guides
Thursday Evening: Meet in dinning room for dinner
Gather in lodge’s great hall to share lessons learned and network
Friday Morning: Meet in dining room for breakfast
Form groups and tour the fishing sites on the North Branch of the Au Sable with guides
Friday Afternoon: Join your assigned mentor and go FLY FISHING!
Friday Evening: Meet in dinning room for dinner
Gather in lodge’s great hall to hear our Cabin Master Share his vast knowledge on the fine arts of fly
*Thursday and Friday evenings our head guide invites you to join him at the “Big Table” in the lodge to tie flies that match the Au Sable river’ early May hatch.
All those wishing to attend, must first attend the club’s Member Fly Fishing School, and be able to show
a safe level of fishing / wading proficiency before being included in the outing.
Sign-up begins at the club’s Members Fly Fishing School every February and
continues until the outing is full. The outing fills fast, as the lodge has only so
many beds. Our staff of experienced “camp guides and instructors and cooks”
is already established. Once sign-up begins on March 7th, new members are
given priority, first come – first served. Visitors are welcome for evening
The cost to attend will include 3 nights stay in the lodge, and five meals (breakfast on Thursday
and Friday, and dinner on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday)
