Conservation projects are part of the Michigan Fly Fishing Club’s mission, so we provide grants, coordinate clean up teams, and teach conservation concepts in our member’s school, youth school and through monthly speaker meetings.

Help Us Clean Up Michigan Rivers
Another conservation project is protecting game fish and their habits as part of the Michigan Fly Fishing constitution. So members are linked with opportunities to help clean up and maintain many of our popular Michigan Rivers. As many of our members reside in Grayling, the Au Sable River Clean Up is a conservation project that we support annually with a team of volunteers.
Conservation Project Grants
The Michigan Fly Fishing Club funds conservation projects that serve to enhance and protect fish habitats. The Michigan Fly Fishing Club Conservation Committee reviews monetary requests annually. In 2024, the MFFC funded two project conservation project requests.
May of 2024, the MFFC granted The Grayling Fish Hatchery $2,500 to assist in purchasing a new bubbler to aerate The Bluegill Pond and assist in restocking due to use and predation. The Bluegill Pond is home to turtles, vegetation, Bass, and Bluegill. It serves as a safe and successful kids-only fishing area for Hatchery visitors.
Also in May 2024, the MFFC granted $1,000 to Cedars of the Au Sable. Planted cedars along the banks of the Au Sable and Manistee rivers provide natural preservation against bank erosion, shade assisting in keeping the cold water fishery cold, and protection for aquatic life in the river.
April 2024, the MFFC split a grant with Lovells Township leadership suppling a Porta-John at Dam 4. The MFFC provided $700 for that project to help keep the land clean, cut down on trespassing and improve accessibility.
If you have a conservation project, please fill out the grant request below and contact an MFFC member to sponsor your request.
