Didymo monitoring assistance is an MFFC opportunity available to us, thanks to Jordyn Stoll, April’s guest speaker.
Supplies
All you need is a small sealable container, a toothbrush type scraper, rubbing alcohol or vodka, and a cell phone! Glen Easterbrook challenged the MFFC to step up to assist Jordyn collect didymo monitoring information. He donated 100 packets with 5 kits each to get members started in stepping up to help.
Sampling Directions
A brief overview of the process is to: download the Survey1-2-3 app, within the app search and select the MITU Didymo Monitoring survey, gather sampling supplies, choose a sample location, turn on phone GPS, photograph the site, take a sample, put it into a container of preservation liquid, stick the containers into a Ziplock bag, submit information when cell signal is available, keep sample out of direct sunlight or extreme heat (i.e. your car in summer), then finally mail the sample within 24 hours via Priority Mail to: 7851 Murray Ridge Rd, Elyria, OH 44035, ATTN: Jordyn Stoll.
Include your name and address as you entered it in the app survey screen so Jordyn can connect your sample and survey accordingly.
Fill out a separate survey page for each sample – you can still mail the samples to Jordyn all in one package.
Decontaminate your gear after sampling!
