The world mourns the loss of another fly fishing great, Ed Van Put, a famed Catskill tyer who learned from the renowned Catskill tyers, Harry and Elsie Darbee. Services are December 20, 2024 in Roscoe, NY. (Click here for Ed Van Put’s Obituary)
“The fly is the most important thing between you and the fish, not the leader, line, rod or reel, the fly. Not the pattern, but how well it is tied, flies have to have correct proportions, tail, body, hackle, wings etc.” -Ed Van Put
An original instructor at the Wulff School of Fly Fishing and a member of the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild, Ed was also well known as a meticulous researcher and historian of fly fishing.
He was inducted into the Catskill Fly Fishing Center Hall of Fame and the NYS Outdoorsman Hall of Fame, plus received many other honors.
Ed published a number of books. Click here for a list.
