Griz’s “DSP Mr. Softie Crawfish” is unique because it represents crawfish molting times. Crawfish molt 10 to 15 times a year, making them very vulnerable to Bass and Trout, who love to chow on them. Crawfish live to be around 30 years old – that is a lot of molting! Molting crawfish colors can vary, ranging from red, orange, blue/purple, to even all olive.
The one we will be tying at the October Activities Meeting is the blue/purple version which I frequently use for bass fishing. The watershed determines the color that should be fished, based on the vegetation they consume. I love to tie these amazing flies, as they work well. This is in the same series with my regular DSP Crawfish.
Todd will personally be supplying the yarn, zonker strips, and the hooks. If you have your own supplies or variations of materials, please feel free to bring them along with you.
Make sure you use 6/0 or 140 denier thread in black or dark brown to tie this fly. If you have purple or blue, that works to. Come tie along with me and sling bobbins for the October Activity night!
